Aspen Skiing Company is proposing the SHOP to address a shared housing challenge facing Snowmass and the Roaring Fork Valley as a responsible employer and community partner.
The SHOP project is on Divide Road, next to Snowmass Mountain’s primary operations hub—a behind-the-scenes, high-traffic area where vehicles are maintained and the entire mountain’s deliveries and trash service move in and out daily.
The site is part of an approved development plan that allows for a 14,000-square-foot commercial warehouse with housing (larger than the proposed housing). This is a working part of Snowmass, and the project builds on what’s already permitted there.
The SHOP has a smaller footprint than the previously approved warehouse and housing building.
Shaped by Public Process
In the past year, the project has received unanimous approval from the planning commission and has been reviewed by housing, engineering, transportation, and planning staff with no unresolved technical issues.
It has also been reviewed, refined, and improved through an extensive public process including thirteen meetings. In response to feedback, the project was:
Reduced in size by approximately 25%
Committed $1.3M in safety and transportation improvements to Divide Road, plus annual contributions to extend shuttle service to the property and Ditch Trail
Thoughtfully refined to minimize visual and nighttime lighting impacts
Designed to be “just big enough” to meet real housing needs
Thrive Snowmass is a Town-led initiative designed to ensure that year-round residents can build sustainable, fulfilling lives in our community—not just get by, but truly thrive.
The result is a smaller, quieter, and more carefully designed project than what was originally proposed, and less impactful than what was previously approved for the site.
